Virtual Enrollment & Attendance FAQs
Who is eligible to attend Minnesota Virtual Academy?
Any student in grades K–12 who resides in Minnesota is eligible for full-time enrollment.
When will enrollment open?
How many of my children can I enroll in Minnesota Virtual Academy?
Because MNVA provides all the lesson plans and materials needed, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program.
What does it cost to attend Minnesota Virtual Academy?
Since Minnesota Virtual Academy is a public school program, there is no tuition. MNVA provides a state-certified teacher and instructional materials for the program. However, students and families will be responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper).
What is the attendance policy?
Minnesota Virtual Academy works with families toward a positive attendance record to meet their required number of instructional days following the Houston Public School District calendar.
What is the cohort schedule?
September 5 start: Last day for full-time K-12 approvals is August 22; Last day for part-time 9-12 approvals is September 9.
October 2 start: Last day for full-time K-12 approvals is September 18. No 9-12 part-time approvals accepted.
January 23 start: Last day for full-time K-12 approvals is January 9; Last day for part-time 9-12 approvals is January 26.
February 20 start: Last day for full-time K-12 approvals is February 6. No 9-12 part-time approvals accepted.
Can I take a vacation during the school year?
Families that want to take vacations or long breaks will have to touch base with their teachers and have the approval of the school. The school calendar is posted and it is best for families to schedule vacations around the students’ days off, if possible. If your family or student is taking an extended trip (for example, students traveling or living with relatives outside Minnesota) your student cannot be considered a Minnesota resident, so wouldn’t be eligible for enrollment since MNVA is a Minnesota public school.
